Scripture: “The earth was without form and void.”
Genesis 1:2
Power
Point:
Originally
when I first read the verse above, I thought that there was nothing there in the "nothingness" that became the heavens and the earth. Not true!
The word “without form” actually means there was no shape to what was there, but indeed there was something there. There was confusion,
unreality, emptiness or, are you ready for this? There was CHAOS! Chaos means that everything that was in that
gaping hole, that place that was topsy-turvy, only needed a word from God to
change things. "Without form", meant that the space was
actually filled with confusion. God spoke and changed all that. He brought a
perfect order and established a new authority. I guess you could say that He set boundaries for the chaos.
If we don’t establish God’s word as the “new” authority in our lives we
will never get anything “new” will we? If we don’t allow Him to “speak” into
our lives, we will never have form and power.
If we continue in the chaos of the “old” guess where we’ll be this time
next year, and the year after that and the year after that.
So what’s going to be “new” for you this year? I’ve heard a lot of people talking about
their “new year’s resolutions”. May I
offer a word of wisdom?
If you take a long look at your life today are
there are probably places that are chaotic; places that seem to perpetually confuse you and
keep your thoughts topsy-turvy? The
original word for “chaos” meant a wide gaping hole. Beloved if we don’t fill
ourselves with the words of God and the Word of God, we will be filled with
chaos. What you don’t fill will be filled
with something. Wouldn’t you rather be filled with something amazing?
In the very beginning of creation, God
showed us what His word could do.
When the Bible says, “He spoke”, it
means that He created something “new” out of the old. It was dark. God said,
“Let there be light and there was light.” He created man out of something
already created and made a “new” thing. If you go back and review creation
you’ll always find Him reshaping old into “new”. What a powerful picture for
us.
It’s the beginning of a “new” year.
God promises that His word will not ever return void, empty or useless. He will
change the “old” into the “new”. His word will take what you have now and
reshape it into a flourishing life.
Do you trust Him to do that? If your
little corner of the earth is “without
form and void”, let Him bring order and fill the gaping hole of your chaos
with His life, with His Spirit, and with the powerful order of His creative
Word. Let Him destroy the power of Chaos
and restore the authority over your life that Jesus died to give you.
Ready to try it? After all, what have you got to lose?

Thought:
Jesus is
the Prince of Peace. If He can turn water into wine, He can create peace from
your confusion. Wise men and women still seek Him and ask Him to do that.
