Key Scripture: "...with both feet firmly planted on love, you'll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:15-19 The Message
Power Point:
Whatever we know of God, there’s
always more to know isn’t there? Whatever
we think about Him, there’s more to think. Whatever box we have put Him in, He
needs more space. He tells us that His love is SO good, and SO big, that it’s
unknowable, yet He encourages us to know Him. He says that knowing Him is the foundation of faith and the key to being able to have peace when I don't understand what's happening. The more we know, the more there is to love. The more we love Him, the more we can
trust Him. The more we trust Him, the more we are rewarded with His generosity
in giving us freely all things for our enjoyment. The security and safety of His perfect love is beyond our
comprehension but not beyond our grasp.
I’m
reading a book by Graham Cooke, called, “Living in Dependency and Wonder.” In it He tells about a time when he was
reliving a really sinful time in his life. It’s as though a video was playing in
his mind. Suddenly Jesus freezes the frame and says, “Grae, it wasn’t your disobedience or your rebellion that grieved
Me. Son, I dealt with those issues
on the Cross. What grieved Me is
that you never saw what I wanted to be for you. You never understood what I wanted to
give you. If you had known what
I wanted to be for you, this is how the situation would have turned out.” He turned my attention back
to the scene. The whole dream
played out as if I had responded perfectly to God. In that instant, I saw what could have been. I woke up, feeling clean and new
inside, suddenly very aware of the
depths of God’s love for me."
God
is very relational. He is very
intentional about that relationship. Every situation is crafted to bring us into
more of an understanding of Who He wants to be for us and what He longs to give
us. Each day of our lives can be filled with anticipation and great expectation
of the reality and honor and benefit of being His child, His Beloved.
Are
you more aware of your shortcomings than of your place as a child of God? Is
there a situation in your life today that needs the glorious truths about Your
Dad to become real to you? My son, David, has four children. I think he'd agree that fatherhood definitely isn’t
for sissies. He says that sometimes parents need to be the Teacher and the disciplinarian, and sometimes they are the Coaches. I love that,
because that’s exactly what God is to us. Sometimes He has to discipline us to
get rid of the things that hold us back from intimacy with Him, but the
discipline is never forever. It was never meant to be. It’s not His style. He wants the relationship between you
to grow and flourish, and once the discipline is through, you can move into the joyful place of
being coached by God, instructed, and given the right plays, and encouraged to move
up into another level with Him,
Whatever
situation is happening in your life right now, why don’t you take a moment to
step aside and ask your Father, “Who do you want to be for me in this
place?” and “What do you want me
to see about your love for me here?”
You’ll
probably be surprised. In fact, I know you will. He wants to be so much more
for you than you could ever imagine.
