Key Scripture: “Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the
throne of grace-the throne of God’s unmerited favor that we may receive mercy
(for our failures) and find grace to help us in good time for every need,
appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it.” Hebrews 4:16, Amplified Bible
Power Point:
I’ve always hated the idea of a crown of thorns being
smashed down on My Savior’s head. The thought of the pain and the blood dripping down His
bruised face, the final injustice-the ultimate insult to Who He was. But
however it looked to the bystanders who were below Him, He was on His way to a
Throne.
It’s quite possible that this may be a time in your life
when it feels like a thousand thorns are sticking in every available place on
your body. In II Corinthians 12 Paul talks about a very tangible “thorn in
his flesh”. Satan had assigned his own little demons to make it as hard as
possible for Paul to share the gospel. That’s the bad news, the good news is
that God was still on His throne and He had made very sure that Paul was
sufficiently empowered by His own Spirit to maintain his call to share the
good news of Jesus.
Have you ever had a thorn in your finger? It can be the
tiniest thing but it becomes the only thing you can concentrate on doesn’t it?
All you can think of is getting it out! I am so grateful that Jesus endured the
painful presence of all those thorns because when He did, He made it possible
for us to realize that the same Spirit that enabled Him, enables us to endure the
thorns until they are removed. In Paul’s situation I believe that he was
describing actual people who were taunting him and berating him every time he
opened his mouth. Do you have a few of those? God is saying, “Don’t worry about it! My grace is covering
you, it is increasing in you, empowering and enabling you to overcome whatever
damage the thorn is causing.” (Suzanne version)
Isn't that a great truth? Your thorns are preparing you for a
throne. Just as surely as Jesus is sitting on His beautiful heavenly throne
right now, He has prepared a throne for us too. How do we get there from here? By coming boldly, fearlessly and confidently to His throne of
grace where we will find appropriate and
well-timed help just when we need it.
From a thorn to a throne-awesome!
Power Thought:
Thorns help you to learn to rule and reign in this life
because of the power of Holy Spirit in you, just like Jesus.
