Power
Point:
I’ve used this scripture for many
years as a promise from the Lord. In the times when I do NOT know what to
do, He will cause me to think the way HE thinks. When I do that, I have peace. One of the definitions for “peace” is tranquility.
The very sound of that word makes me happy. I can picture myself
being that. Can't you?
Unfortunately sometimes I’m not, even though that's His goal for my life.
Unfortunately sometimes I’m not, even though that's His goal for my life.
When I'm thinking the thoughts that God thinks, I have a confident expectation of His Goodness. If I am confidently expecting Him to be good to me, then I will be
tranquil, and I guess I won’t need tranquilizers.
One of the synonyms for
“tranquil” is “untroubled stillness”. It reminds me of Psalm 46:10 “Be STILL and KNOW that I
am God.”
That’s the key isn’t it? When we are “untroubled”, we are at peace
because we KNOW that we KNOW that we KNOW that God is who He says He is and
will do what HE says HE will do. It means
that we do not allow a troubling
situation to sink into our thoughts.
We are always expecting God to do the impossible because He said He
would.
“Tranquility” also means, “calmness, quietness, and, (are you ready for this?) noiselessness.”
“Tranquility” also means, “calmness, quietness, and, (are you ready for this?) noiselessness.”
Recently I was with my family and we were going through a stressful, very noisy time. My son had just had surgery. His
wife, Kim, was having to take on all of his
responsibilities as well as caring for him and
the children, and the dog.
JD, was hit in the head that particular
day playing football. Later, while she
was on the phone ordering dinner, Benny fell and scraped his knee badly. I looked at her face and I could see that the
“noise” of her life right then had become so loud that it was deafening. I marched her off to my bedroom, fixed her a
mocha coffee, and put a sign on the door ordering everyone to leave her alone, in no uncertain terms! For a brief
moment, she had “no noise”. She took a
moment to regroup, re-gather her thoughts, and get back in the place where
everything looked possible again.
Do you have too much noise in your life right now? Beloved, we are encouraged to think about
God’s possibilities and not our shortcomings and shortfalls. Believing in His goodness, can quiet our hearts and our minds and the noisy expectations of
lack, and failure, and “too much”, will be washed away by remembering how
much He loves us and has us on His mind right this moment. And how much He wants to help.
When you truly know Who God wants to be
for you in your situation and are trusting Him to do it, you can be still. Like Kim, we all need to take a "time out" don't we?
As you take a moment to roll over the cares of
your life onto His very strong shoulders, you purposefully step into agreement with
God. He promises that peace will follow. As a result of exchanging
your “noise”, for His stillness, great
good will come to you. Why? Because He will cause your thoughts to be the same as His. He will encourage a new outlook and a new
optimism about His plans for you. And then?
Your plans will be established and succeed.

Thought:
Agreeing with God means that you give Him your worries, and doubts in exchange for a fresh infusion of hope and possibility. Why not take a "time out" right now to hold out your hands, palms up. Imagine that "noisy" thing right in the middle of them, and say, “Father, do you see “this”? I need to exchange this noisy thing for Your peace.” And then take back the peace He gives you. Be still and know. Shhh!
