Power Of Swaddling Clothes

Key Scripture:  "You will recognize Him by the miracle sign; you will find a  baby wrapped in strips of cloth, and lying in a feeding trough."
Luke 2:22
Power Point:
At this time of year we are very familiar with the manger scene.  As I was reading through the Christmas story in the book of Luke, something caught my attention.  Why was it significant to note that the baby would be wrapped in swaddling clothes?   After a little searching, I was surprised to find out just how important that was!
In a little book from the 1800's by Lydia M. Von Finkelstein Mountford, I gained an understanding of why Jesus's swaddling was critical to the moment.  I would like to paraphrase a part of her book for you. In the Jewish culture of that day, WHAT they WORE was evidence of WHO they WERE.  Jesus's swaddling clothes came from Mary's own garments and they spoke volumes to those who came to see Him.

"First-Mary was a princess of the House of David, and she was a virgin; And so, as a sign of her virginity and her royalty-her garment would have been blue.   The Princes of the House of David all wore garments of different cloths.  Mary's would be of a beautiful royal blue, all woven with gold.  She is a
"candlestick" of the Lord, so a candlestick would have been woven in gold thread on her garment, so that everybody would  know that she was a candlestick of the House of David and a handmaid of the Lord.

Mary would have to have had a white garment over her head.  This garment identifies her as a virgin of the Lord.  Mary is now to become a mother.  She removes the outer garment of white silk and must throw it over the manger.  The Shepherds have to find all these things. Another garment is added. This garment is white, striped with blue; that shows that this is a royal child.  Blue is the sign of royal blood.  That is where you get the expression, "blue blood".  Part of this swaddling garment would hang over the other garment.  Now the genealogy of this child is to be reckoned with.
Besides the royal house, He comes from the house of Boaz and Ruth, and they must bring the signs of the mother's family.  So a red garment would be added from the land of Moab and would show that the blood of the land of Moab flowed through His veins."

The Shepherds were told to look for a sign.  The miracle sign was "a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." The Swaddling Clothes were the children's clothing for the first year of their lives. If there had been no swaddling then it would appear that God had not covered this child; that it had been abandoned.
On that special night, in that manger, lay a royal baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes to identify His genealogy, and to protect Him.  It was a definite sign from God that He was restoring His swaddling to the nation of Israel, and in fact, to the whole world.  No longer were they abandoned and without care.  The Prince of Peace had come. The Kingdom of God had come. The Savior had come.  There was no need for anyone to ever feel abandoned again. The robes that swaddled the Baby Jesus are the same robes that are available to you.
Will you accept them?  Will you be swaddled in His love?  Will you accept His provision for you today of love, joy, peace, faith, and an intimate personal relationship with Him.?
Perhaps you've already accepted the provision of Jesus.  Will you move forward with Him in the coming year?  Will you ask Him to help you to understand the "riches of the glory of your inheritance?  Will you accept and receive His Christmas present to you
Will you make this a Christmas full of Presence?

Power Thought:

Joy to the world!  The Lord has come!  Let us receive our King!
May this Christmas be the genesis of a new understanding of every detail of that manger filled with The Word of God just for you.  And may it be a time of decision to move forward into the New Year as a child of God, cared for, swaddled, and not abandoned. Let your life be evidence of WHO you are.

Power Of Getting Real

Key Scripture: "Not one promise from God is empty of power, for with God there is no such thing as impossibility." Luke 1:37 TPT
Power Point:
I read a message from Max Lucado the other day.  I'd like to share a part of it with you:
"Jesus humbled Himself. He went from commanding angels to sleeping in the straw. Why? Because that is what love does. It puts the loved before itself. Your place in heaven was more important to Him than His place in heaven, so He gave up His so you could have yours."
Beloved, Jesus trusted His Father enough to leave His command post and come to earth as a baby.  Think about that!  Jesus, the SON of God, humbled Himself so totally, putting Himself completely in the hands of His father, AND into the hands of the people on earth, (that would include you and me!)  He does that every day in us doesn't He?  He gives us the choice over whether we will do what He strengthens us to do and say what He teaches us to say.

Love is our choice.
Peace is our choice.
Joy is our choice.

It's easy to look at the beautiful decorations of Christmas and lull ourselves into the thought of how simple it all was, but Beloved, the REAL message of Christmas was love.  Real love coming for us, to us, so that it can be released through us. Because of Jesus, we can be REALLY loved and REALLY love others. Because of Jesus, we can change the atmosphere around us.  Because of Jesus, we can love through anything.
REAL love doesn't ever give up, even when things seem impossible. REAL love pushes through to God's possibilities. REAL love goes beyond the present problem and persists in kindness, patience, and believing. REAL love steps back, steps into God's heart and finds the purpose for that situation and then the direction for that situation. REAL love refuses to be diminished or destroyed.
When you think about it, one of the gifts that Jesus left us to steward was His love. When Perfect Love returns will He find Perfect Love in our hearts, in our homes, in our cities? Will we have increased His gift of love?
Many times I hear people say, "Well, God's in control!"" Well- He is and He isn't.  He has given His control to US, as we follow His leading, just as Jesus did that Christmas night. Will you be a carrier of God's perfect love this Christmas?  Will you trust your heavenly Father to show you how to be "real"?  Will you push through to loving them through?

Beloved,
Love is our choice. Real love never gives up, never gives out and never gives in to the lies of the Enemy.  It marches on.
Peace is our choice. One of the last things that Jesus said, "I leave you MY peace." What are we doing with it?  Is it increasing?
Joy is our choice. Joy is a result of knowing the love of God, and living in the peace of God, and following His lead.
That's what can make Christmas REAL in our hearts, choosing to let Jesus, who became flesh and dwelt among us, to become Spirit and dwell within us and through us.

Your love is stronger than their hatred.
Your peace is stronger than their arguments
Your joy is stronger than their anger and bitterness.
Why?  Because Jesus was real and He's really, really, BIG in you, if you allow Him to be. It's your choice.
Get REAL!

Power Thought:
Is it time for a reality check?

Power Of Beginning Again

Power of Beginning Again

Key Scripture: And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth, Peace, Good Will toward men!   Luke 2:13,14
Power Point:
The Christmas Season is a glorious time of learning what REAL love is all about, isn't it?  If you think about it there probably wasn't one person alive on earth at that time that met God's requirements for a relationship with Him.  Things looked dark.  Things were dark.  Then suddenly the heavens were FULL of angels and heavenly light.  Think about that for a moment.  Pure light shone everywhere as the Power of God, His own Son, made His way to Bethlehem.  Everywhere you looked you would have been able to see a touch of heaven.  It was manifested by Love, Joy, Peace, angels singing, and glorious light.  It was so amazing that Shepherds who were grazing their flocks looked up and started off to find what had caused this incredible experience.
Heaven didn't just "leak" into earth.  Heaven didn't come quietly and hide in the corner.  All of God's glory came in that tiny package, ready to begin the path to Redemption. He had not given up on the earth no matter how silent He had been for four hundred years. No, Beloved. He was just beginning, again.
Isn’t that just like God?  He has a fresh supply of hope, love, mercy, kindness, uncontainable joy, and superior peace every time you ask Him for it.  He's always ready to begin again.
The most wonderful thing about Him is that He always plans to love you through to the end.
When He looks at your life, He sees the potential not the problem. He's happily planning your future, not distracted by your present. Because there's not a cell in His body or a thought in head that is not committed to loving you through to the end that He sees for you; there's never a time when He is not ready to begin again.

Why not take Him up on that?  Why not sit down right now and simply say,

"Father, I need a fresh start. Will you help me to begin again?  Will You help the good that You've planted in my Spirit become refreshed and restored to the loving fullness that being born again made in my life so that I can begin?  Again?
Will You love me through the mistakes and the poor choices and redirect me into my calling and my purpose.  Will You help me to love others through their mistakes so that they can begin again too?  Would You help me to see and hear heaven everywhere, just as I did at the beginning? In other words, would You love me through to the joyous personal celebration of heaven coming to earth?"

The fragrance of heaven was released in the earth that night. It smelled of victory and hope for the future. You can begin. Again.

Power Thought:
Is there someone in your life that needs you to love them through to the end that God has planned for him or her?  It's Christmas, you know. It's time to begin. Again.

Power Of Staying In The Shallows

Power Of Staying in the Shallows
Key Scripture:  "He brought me through the waters and the water came up to my ankles. Again...He brought me through the waters; the waters came up to my knees...again, He measured the depths and the water came up to my waist.  Again He measured and it was a river that I could not cross, for the water was too deep, water in which one MUST SWIM, a river that could not be crossed." Ezekiel 47: 3-5
Power Point:
When my son David, was small, we introduced him to the water in his grandparent's pool. He wasn't having it.  He screamed until we took him out. So we decided to "start small".  We started in the shallow end where there were some steps until he finally got used to that.  He would play with his toys on the steps but that was definitely as far as he intended to go.  His dad would pick him up and hold him close to his chest and slowly walk more  deeply into the water.  Then he would dip into the deeper water.  David was definitely NOT having any of that.  Finally, they invented "floaties"-those wonderful inflatable floats that fit right on his arms. You absolutely could not go under the water with those things on. The Floaties allowed David to get used to the feel of the water and eventually of course, he lost his fear and began to swim.  In fact, today he trains for Triathalons and swims it to win it!  On the other hand, his four year old daughter Hannah, has been ready to swim from the beginning. It should be interesting to see that fearlessness play out in her life.
The Christian life is like learning to swim if you think about it.  In Ezekiel, we see the River of God flowing from the Throne of God. In the beginning, you usually just dip your toe in the water, then the water comes up to your ankles, then your knees, until suddenly it's so deep that you have to swim or you will sink!  When you float, the water will hold you up, but you wont make much
progress. When you learn to swim, you move forward. Some Christians decide to stay in "the shallow end".  They don't want to bother learning to swim.   After all, their dad is there to hold them. The unfortunate part about that logic is that living in the shallows means that you never learn to swim on your own.  You never get to learn the joy of that experience. Then when the waters of life get deep or rough, you are always calling for rescue, always frantically looking for someone to get you OUT!
The truth is, that God will hold you close but at some point He will begin to dip into the depths of the water so that you can learn to swim on your own.  That's vital, and that's His purpose.  Swimmers are prepared when the waters seem too deep. They use their skills to navigate the deeper waters knowing that their Father is right there with them, and if the current of those waters become too strong, then He will clasp you to His chest and the waters will not overflow them.
Beloved, we were never meant to stay in the "shallows" of  the River of God. His plan is to teach you to become comfortable with the water and eventually to swim and not sink. Even now, somewhere in your life circumstances you are being given an opportunity to learn to swim. God knows that you can't rely on staying in the shallows and He knows that floaties won't help you navigate the rough waters. He wants you to learn to swim before you get to the rough waters. It's so much easier that way.
Perhaps you've decided to stay in the shallows in the area of developing the Fruit of the Spirit. You never try to grow your spirit man so you are always dog paddling through relationships. You might be putting on your floaties to help you swim in Faith. You simply refuse to take the time to do the necessary training to develop your faith muscles.  What is the area of your life where your heavenly Father is offering you the opportunity to learn to swim on your own?

Isn't it time to come out of the shallows and learn to swim into all that God is training you for?
Are you ready to sink or to swim?

Power Thought:
You were never intended to stay in the shallows Beloved, you were always meant to swim vigorously in the river of God. And enjoy it.
