Power of The Main Thing

Key Scripture: But now, by giving himself completely at the Cross, actually dying for you, Christ brought you over to God's side and put your lives together, whole and holy in his presence. You don't walk away from a gift like that! You stay grounded and steady in that bond of trust, constantly tuned in to the Message, careful not to be distracted or diverted. There is no other Message—just this one.” Colossians 1, The Message

Power Point:
Jesus has given everything for us.  He has embraced us with everything He is and everything He has. He has held nothing back. Why? Because He knows that what He has offered us will change our lives forever.  Don't you think He would do a better job of managing it than we would?
In Psalms 27 King David says that the One Thing He most desires of God is that He would be able to dwell where He dwells every single day of his life. It’s the one thing that he asks for from God. God calls David a “man after His own heart”. Why? Because Beloved, that is the thing that God delights in. He wants to be with us, to help us, to guide us, and to be Lord of all the pieces in all the places of our lives. You are His main thing!

As Paul says, You don’t walk away from a gift like that! You stay grounded and steady in that bond of trust, constantly tuned in to the Message, careful not to be distracted or diverted.” If we are to make the Main Thing, the main thing-no area should be exempt from the gentle Lordship of Christ. When Jesus is calming Martha down after her irritation with Mary, He says, “There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:42, NLT)  What was Mary’s one thing? She refused to be distracted from connecting with the heart of Jesus. Martha on the other hand, was much distracted. She was busy making sandwiches that Jesus hadn’t ordered! Could a lack of mayonnaise distract her from connecting with Jesus? Evidently.
What is it in your life that distracts you from connecting with Him? What is it that keeps you from being grounded and steady in your faith? It can be anything Beloved. When something is the main thing it takes precedence over every other thing. If Jesus is the Main Thing, the Main Point of our lives, we will not walk away from His offer to guide us into an abundant life. Is it worth it? I think so.
What really is the Main Thing in your life? What is the one thing you cannot give up or be distracted from? For the Israelites it was onions and garlic. For Martha, it was her hospitality. For Judas it was his love of money.
For Jesus it was time with His Father-that connection, that intimacy, and that loving relationship. That was His Main Thing. I'd say that turned out pretty well for everyone don't you think?

Power Thought:
Where is God on your priority list? Are you constantly tuned into His message or easily distracted? Can you say with Paul, "I count all things as unimportant compared to the excellence of knowing Him."
